    Hi everybody,

I’m looking for help with trying to create a ’spell-length’ variable
for a multiple spell discrete-time event history analysis. I am stuck
and would greatly appreciate if someone could help us specify the
    appropriate syntax.

We have a person-period data set where our outcome is the sex of child
and births are stacked by mothers so that we can look at effects
across birth parities. Each birth at each parity is a spell and we
want to also construct a variable that gives us the length, in years,
between births/parity. In the end we want to have births stacked by
mothers and time in years between births stacked by birth/parity. We
also have ages of children and can thus get the time difference
between births. Our data looks like this:

    Momid Parity Sex Kidage

    1 1 0 11
    1 2 1 8
    2 1 1 3
    3 1 1 5
    3 2 1 2
    4 1 0 5
    4 2 1 3
    5 1 1 14
    5 2 0 13
    5 3 0 11
    5 4 1 10
    6 1 0 4
    6 2 1 4
    6 3 1 0

    How can we do this?

Any help is highly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
