    Mr. and Mrs. Patton and their daughter Carolyn own 3 cars. Carolyn drives 10 miles per week farther with her car than her father does with his. Mr. Patton drives twice as many miles per week as Mrs. Patton. If their total mileage per week is 160 miles, how many miles per week does each drive?

    Not too bad. The next set of problems involve distance word problems: D = rt.

    Ow! You are killing me!
    2x+ x+ 2x+ 10= 160
    5x+ 10=160
    5x= 150
    x= 30

    Mrs. Patton drives x= 30 miles per week.
    Mr. Patton drives 2x= 60 miles per week.
    Carolyn drives 2x+ 10= 70 miles per week.

    Check: those add too 30+ 60+ 70= 160 miles per week as needed.

    You are killing yourself. Ignore my questions. Why is this hard for you to do?
