    Set 1.5

    In Exercises 42 and 43, determine the x-coordinates of the points A and B. (Each dashed line is parallel to a coordinate axis). Explain how this is done.

    42.
    the x-coordinates of the point A is 1
    proof:
    1.5=x/2+1
    3=x+2
    3-2=x
    x=1

    and the x-coordinates of the point B is 3
    2.5=x/2+1
    5=x+2
    x=5-2
    x=3

    43.

    0.4=x^2/2
    x^2=0.8
    x=sqrt(0.8)
    x≈0.894427
    the x-coordinates of the point A is x≈0.9

    0.6=x^2/2
    x^2=1.2
    x=sqrt(1.2)
    x≈1.09545
    the x-coordinates of the point B is x≈1.1

    The David Cohen precalculus textbook is no joke. It is a lot harder than the Ron Larson textbook.
