    How is this absolute value equation done?

    | (e - π) |^2 = e + π

    This is an absolute value equation. Don't we need to present two cases to solve for x?

    I see my typo. The problem should be as follows:

    | (e - πx) |^2 = e + π

    This reads:

    The absolute value squared of the quantity
    (e - πx) = e + π. Solve for x.

    The absolute value squared of the quantity ;
    (e - πx) = e + π. Solve for x.
    and
    -(e - πx) = e + π. Solve for x.
