A sign hangs from a spring. You pull it down 8 inches and let it go. It takes 3 seconds for the sign to return to its rest position. Find amplitude, period and frequency. Build a function.

If you pull the sign on a spring down 8 inches it will not just go back to its rest position and stop. with "simple harmonic motion", no friction, it will have its maximum speed at its rest position and continue 8 inches on the other side. The amplitude is 16 inches and the period, the time until it comes back to its original 8 inches from the rest position, is 4(3)= 12 seconds.
