Cool. Word problems during the week. Precalculus on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In terms of word problems, I will not solve find the answer(s), unless otherwise needed. Instead I will practice setting up the right equation(s) leading to the answer. If my set up is incorrect, please make all needed corrections.

MarkFL and Soroban repeatedly told me years ago that there is nothing more important in terms of math than learning to set up the right equation(s) leading to the right answer(s). In fact, I was rejected for a great job in Springfield Missouri as a Bank Financial Advisor because I failed the entry test which involved lots of word problems at the junior high school level. By the way, I had all THREE COLLEGE DEGREES when I took the test in 2006. Talk about embarrassing moments. You say?

MarkFL and Soroban are absolutely right

Basic Steps to Setting Up Equations
    1. Determine what the question is asking.
    2. Write down the relevant information in simple statements.
    3. Assign symbols to unknown values that need to be found.
    4. Determine how the statements relate to each other mathematically.

This is easier said than done.
