The perimeter of a rectangle is 72 inches. The shortest side is nine inches long. What is the area of the rectangle?


A. 648 square inches
B. 328 square inches
C. 243 square inches
D. 81 square inches

P = 2l + 2w

72 = 2l + 2(9)

72 - 18 = 2l

54 = 2l

54/2 = l

27 = l

A = lw

A = 27(9)

A = 243

The area is 243 square inches.

Too many cry babies complaining that standardized exams are too hard or a racist act by white supremacy groups. If standards continue to be lowered, the only item that students will need to register for physics will be a pencil.

You find an issue with most of my work and responses. You are condescending in your replies, not all the time, but I sense a cocky attitude at your end. You know, shame on me for not knowing how to solve certain questions, as if to say, that I am slow or just not understanding math in any way, shape or form.

Maybe it's easy. Maybe it's not. It all depends on the student, doesn't it? As a tutor, NEVER use the word easy when helping others. The word easy can be offensive depending on the context.

For example, I don't know how to drive. No need to learn. I live in NYC. However, I really hate it when my friends thatdo drive say: COME ON, DRIVING IS EASY. ANY MONKEY CAN PASS THE ROAD TEST. TAKE THE TEST. IT EASY. COME ON, DRIVING IS EASY.

Yes, driving is easy if you know what you are doing. I play guitar and can read and write my own tabs at an intermediate level. I taught guitar privately many years ago. Never did I use the word easy. Come on, it's easy to form an open F chord, even for novice players. WRONG!!! It's not easy at all. Apply this to mathematics.
