A ship leaves its home port and sails on a bearing of S 60° 50' E. Another ship leaves the same port at the same time and sails on a bearing of S 20° 10' E. If the first ship sails at 24.0 mphband the second ship sails at 28.0 mph, find the distance between the two ships after 4 hours.

Note: I may find some time later this evening to post a few Section 6.4 questions from the Ron Larson textbook. This is it in terms of bearing questions (for now).

You say?

your drawing is not correct
on it first ship ails on a bearing of N 60° 50' E, not S 60° 50' E.
directions South East are represented in Q IV
both ships in your case have South ->East

A ship leaves its home port and sails on a bearing of S 60° 50' E. Another ship leaves the same port at the same time and sails on a bearing of S 20° 10' E.

here are examples

Ok. Thanks for the correction. I must have been in a hurry. If the drawing is wrong, the answer will be incorrect.
