How is this done? Explain along the way. Looks like an interesting question.

shaded area is right triangle, height is 6
use given area to find the length of the base

A=(1/2)b*h

in your case A=72 and h=6
72=(1/2)b*6...simplify
72=b*3
b=72/3
b=24

so, now we have two points that lie on a line: (0,6) and (24,0)

then slope of the line is:
m=(0-6)/(24-0)
m=-6/24
m=-1/4

I can now play with this problem by changing the numbers given. What if the height is s and the area is t square units?
