From *what* exercise? What you've posted appears to be from the solution set.
...it gives two answers to solve attached problem:
3+(3x%4)
3x % (x+4)
What does the above mean? Are you using the percentage symbol (%) to indicate some sort of mathematical operation? What are the instructions to the above?
But when we plug in i.e.: number 5. The answer to first solution is 6.75 and to second is 1.66666...
"i.e." means "that is", which implies that you are supposed to plug 5, specifically, into... something. Into what? Why 5?
Note: The image in your attachment says the following:
=====================================
\(6x(2x+8)^{-1} = \left[6x^{-1/1}(2x+8)\right]^{-1}\)
\(\qquad =\left[(6x)^{-1}(2x+8)\right]^{-1} = \left[\frac{1}{6x}(2x+8)\right]^{-1}\)
\(\qquad = \left(\frac{2x}{6x} + \frac{8}{6x}\right)^{-1} = \left(\frac{1}{3} + \frac{4}{3x}\right)^{-1}\)
Note: The answer is equivalent to \(\left(\frac{x}{3x} + \frac{4}{3x}\right)^{-1} = \frac{3x}{x+4}\)
=====================================
So the solution does not appear to relate to the stuff you posted with the 3's...?
