I want to know if my set up is correct.
1. In 20 years, Kayleen will be four times older than she is today. What is her current age?
Let x = Kayleen's current age.
Let x + 20 = Kayleen's age in 20 years.
x + 20 = 4x
You say?
2. John is twice as old as his friend Peter. Peter is 5 years older than Alice. In 5 years, John will be three times as old as Alice. How old is Peter now?
John's age now = 2(x + 5)
Peter's age now = x + 5
Alice's age now = x
2(x + 5) = 3x
Let me try this one.
2x + 10 = 3x
10 = 3x - 2x
10 = x
Peter = x + 5 or 10 + 5 = 15 years old.
Yes?
