    Find distance from the lighthouse to the ship. Show steps in your reply. If the bearing of the lighthouse from the ship is 250°, where does 70° come from? Why is 70° needed in this picture?

    you see these 2 arrows, these are parallel
    they are connected with line segment, same as when two parallel lines are intersected by third line
    the angles in the same position are corresponding angles

    so, 70° (at lighthouse) is also angle between line segment from lighthouse to boat and arrow pointing to the N (which is one of the parallel lines)
