    3 x^4 + x^3 - 2 = (3 x^3)(x + 1/3) + -2

    so, R=-2

if you have reminder, means (x + 1/3) is not a factor

Since the remainder is not 0, then (x + 1/3) is not a factor of the given polynomial. The remainder provides this information easily. This section is not too bad.
