    Equality of Complex Numbers

    Two complex numbers a + bi and c + di, written in standard form, are equal to each other
    a + bi = c + di if and only if a = c and b = d.

    Based on the definition above, the answer for questions 7 and 8 is as follows:

    For 7, a = 9, b = 8.

    For 8, a = 10, b = -5

    How is 9 done? I will do 10 following your reply to question 9.

    9. use a + bi = c + di if and only if a = c and b = d

    (a-2)+(b+1)i=6+5i
    =>
    (a-2)=6 =>a=8
    and
    (b+1)=5 =>b=4

    Ok. I get it.

    Let me try 10.

    a + 2 = 4

    a = 4 - 2

    a = 2

    b - 3 = 7

    b = 7 + 3

    b = 10

    Yes?
