The set up for each problem.

    Question 1

    Let x = invested at 8%.

    Let 6000 - x = invested at 12%.

    What I invested at 8% + what I invested at 12% = 600.

    0.08x + 0.12(6000 - x) = 600

    Yes?

    Question 2

    Let x = Norman's invested amount at 5%.

Let 0.07x = what he invested at 7%.

    Equation:

    0.05x + 2(0.07x + 500) = 187

    Yes?

Not bad for guessing my way through each problem.
