    John, who is preparing for a very difficult bike race, made his best sprint time today, finishing 200 meters in 25 seconds. What was John’s rate of speed during his sprint?

    A. 8 meters per second
    B. 4 meters per second
    C. 4 meters per minute
    D. 8 meters per minute

    Let me see. I think the best approach is using the formula D = rt.

    D = rt

    200 = r(25)

    200/25 = t

    8 = t

    I say the answer is choice A.

    Another way to think about this is that "meters per second" MEANS "distance in meters divided (per) time in seconds". Therefore you divide 200 meters by 25 seconds.
