    A trucker drove for 4 hours at an average speed of 60 miles per hour (mph) and then for 3 hours at an average speed of 30 mph. What was his total distance traveled?

    Let D_1 = first distance.

    Let D_2 = second distance

    D_1 = 4(60)

    D_1 = 240 miles.

    D_2 = 3(30)

    D_2 = 90 miles.

    Let D_1 + D_2 = total distance

    D_1 + D_2 = 240 miles + 90 miles

    D_1 + D_2 = 330 miles.

    The truck driver drove a total distance of 330 miles.
