Find zeros of the rational function.

    h(x) = (x^2 - 9x + 14)/(4x)

    Let me guess.

We simply let h(x) = 0 and solve for x.

    Yes?

It's good to know what to do. One thing I forgot to mention concerns your reply to my questions. I do better as a student when each reply is not stated using math symbols or using math jargon.

    Example:

    x + 5 = 9

    Solve for x.

    Solution:

We need to find the value of x. Since x is added to 5, we must subtract 5 from both sides of the equation.

    Look here:

    x + 5 - 5 = 9 - 5

    On the right side, + 5 - 5 becomes 0.

    See it?

We are then left with x alone.

    x = 9 - 5

    We know that 9 - 5 is 4

    Answer: x = 4

    Mira,

The way I responded to this sample question is the way "Math For Dummies" is written. This is the way I understand what to do. If you answer the same question using math jargon, I will be lost or confused, which leads no where.

    Understand?

Can you reply to my questions using a "Math For Dummies" method moving forward? If you truly love math, then it's no big issue, right?

I know that you are used to writing math the same way it is expressed in textbooks but this does not help me. If you are going to use math symbols and jargon, then this entire precalculus trek goes no where. Understand?

If you need me to decrease the number of daily questions, I can do so to make it easy for you. I do know that you have a life outside of the internet. I am not asking you to hold my hand every step of the way but to put yourself in my shoes as a self-study person that took this course in the Spring 1993 semester.
