    [IMG]

    a) given [IMG] => x=2

    then [IMG] => approximately y=1.3

    b)
    given [IMG] => x=5

    then
    [IMG] => y=1.7 (approximately )

    c)
    given [IMG] =>x=6.5

    y=[IMG] =>y= 1.9 (approximately )

    Very good. Can this be done without a calculator? I don't think we had calculators 100 years ago.

    it's hard to do it without a calculator because you need to find a number x which raised to the power of 3 equals 2
    only possibility is to take guess of x which must be greater than 1 and less than 2

    rule:
    [IMG]

    1. Estimate a number b
    2. Divide a by b. If the number c returned is precise to the desired decimal place, stop.
    3. Average b and c and use the result as a new guess
    4. Repeat step two

    In that case, I'll stick to the calculator.
