Section 1.8
Question 27

For this question, I want you to graph f, g and f + g but let me answer the question. Use a different color for each graph.

See attachment.

I don't understand the two separate graphs. Let me use algebra.

Let x = 1.

f(1) = 3(1) + 2 or 5.

g(1) = -sqrt{1 + 5} = -sqrt{6}.

Between 0 and 2, f(x) is above g(x) on the graph.

Let x be > 6.

How about 7?

f(7) = 3(7) + 2 or 23.

g(x) = -sqrt{7 + 5}

g(x) = -sqrt{12}.

I know that 23 > -sqrt{12}.

I say when x > 6, the graph of f(x) is above g(x).

Yes?

Very cool. We're moving right along with precalculus. Section 1.9 involves Inverse Functions. I know how to solve most of the problems in the next section. Like always, I will post problems I am not familiar with and/or the author gave no samples.
