you made mistake while subtracting -5x^2 -(-4x^2)=-x^2 and because of that entire result is wrong

    .............(x^2+ 9 x-1
    (x^2-4)| (x^4+9x^3-5x^2-36x+4)
    ..............x^4+0*x^3-4x^2
    ........................9x^3-x^2 -36x
    ........................9x^3+0*x^2 -36x
    .................................-x^2 +0............bring down 4
    .................................-x^2 +4
    .................................-x^2 +4
    ...........................................0

    x^4 + 9x^3 - 5x^2 - 36x + 4 = (x^2 + 9x - 1)*(x^2 - 4) + 0
