you made mistake while subtracting -5x^2 -(-4x^2)=-x^2 and because of that entire result is wrong

........................9x^3+0*x^2 -36x

x^4 + 9x^3 - 5x^2 - 36x + 4 = (x^2 + 9x - 1)*(x^2 - 4) + 0
