How can I simply sqrt{4.9} without a calculator?

I'm sure there is a way but may required advanced skills that I don't have.

4.9= 49/10 so sqrt(4.9)= sqrt(49/10)= 7/sqrt(10). If you like you can "rationalize the denominator" by multiplying both numerator and denominator by sqrt(10): sqrt(4.9)= 7sqrt(10)/10. Is that "simpler"?
